About- Who Is This Guy

Welcome to the About Me Page

Guy Monague- I am from Beausoleil First Nation and have years of experience as a Digital Content Creator from Video Production, Audio Production and working with Images and Content Creation for Newsletters and Videos.

I worked for years as the Communications Officer for the Beausoleil First Nation and always been on top of the latest software and techniques online. I use the latest Ai Tools and they are great and they help you write and create, you still have to use your own ideas and your own creativity to make it yours.

Chief of Beausoleil First Nation

I was elected to Chief in 2018 and continued on through COVID and completed my term in June 2021. This is when I decided to start my Log Construction business and bought a Saw Mill.

During my term, the council and I initiated many projects and some  are just being completed today. I know our community will be very excited to see our new ferry here this year and to see the roads completed, Thanking the Chief & Council and staff seeing these projects through.

It was an honour and experience to be able to do this in my life time, I will always cherish the memories and experience, even though it was a very tough time to be a leader during COVID shutdowns.

I met a lot of leaders in our communities across Ontario and learned from them as well. There were fun times and challenging times bringing our own community issues to the various tables and political forums. It took a lot of lobbying and getting support to complete our goal of getting the new ferry and the Anishinabek Chiefs and Chiefs of Ontario were right behind us.
It also took a lot of work to get the support from the Federal and Provincial government and lobbying for funds and to get approvals. I created a lot of professional relationships during those times and getting that support for your home community can be tough, but Relationship Building was a measure that helped in getting these approvals to the forefront and to the approval tables. It's great that our community has a Trust Fund that can help fund projects for the community, It always helps that you can show your contribution in these projects.

"One of my biggest and best experiences was seeing how powerful our people can be as a collective, when we realize fully of our real potential, individually and collectively, we can create great futures for ourselves today and set a real foundation for the next generations."

The Music Man

Ive been playing music since my younger days and have kept at it, I still perform every now and then and have a Band right now called Guy and Silver Foxes. I love playing and singing traditional country music and have a pedal steel player in the band to create that real country sound. I still love Classic Rock and play as much as I can of my favorites and include them in the mix.
This is another experience that I've really enjoyed over the years, many great friends who are very talented in the music scene, locally and in other First Nations.

If you need a band for your next community event or fund-raiser, give me call.

Little Ojibway Log Construction

Little Ojibway Log Construction- Last year I officially launched my Construction Company to specialize in Timber and Log Construction, our goal is to build Mini-Log Homes for various markets that are looking a mini-homes or structures.

In 2024, we worked on a Timber Frame Pavilion for the community, this gave us the experience of all aspects of building a Timber Frame structure, this also gave us a chance to hire some youth and train them in this unique art.

A Start-Up Company is a real challenge, especially when you have to rely on it for a living too, in 2024, it was a real struggle with 2 main projects and incorporating some smaller jobs in between and taking the time to train 2 new employees. The challenge with this is, trying to keep on top of payroll, so we had to be creative and sell other products and services, my partner Caroline is always creative and acquiring different jobs such as catering in instructing on craft classes. She kept the money going to keep our home running and bills paid, but each week was a struggle.

Our other main project was actually starting on mini-home, this one is a Dove-Tail Corner style log home with chinking to placed in between logs. Our method of building for anyone is to construct it on-site then move it to the customer's property once the logs and roof have been assembled, every piece can be disassembled.

My sister wanted a structure built for her practice of Foot Massage and I talked her into building a log structure with dove-tail corners. This is the main project and structure that I would use for marketing so that potential customer can come and see a project that we built and they might consider this style, there are many log connections and styles of building, but you really have to see some real structures to refine your vision.

This is a small structure, the logs that we used are light enough for anyone to pick up and put this together.
So we can build it for you right on your own property.

Throughout 2024, I was just using my Facebook as a promotion tool and showcase our projects, and some people would get ideas and we would build them.
We had Teepees, Garbage Bins, Live Edge Projects and Benches.

It really helps to have a sawmill to be able to custom cut our beams and we are using White Pine and Red Pine and these are sourced and cut right on the island.

Here are some of the projects that we worked on:

We started of with small projects for my apprentices to learn basic carpentry and tools. Shawn Dean just loved doing the wood burning part, he thought it was the coolest thing.

Our finished product of the garbage bin. We had a request to build some wooden teepees for the school, the kids just loved hanging out and playing in them.

We finally got into the actual cutting of the Timber Frame Mortise and Tenons in July and August. On the left we have a pile of logs that have the dove-tail corners. On the right, this was our first rafter that we put together with the bigger beams and a lot work went into cutting the mortise and tenons and fitting the rafter together. Initially, we started our Mortise work with chisels and drills and I eventually bought a Mortise Cutting machine that I found on e-Bay and it was delivered right from Japan.

These are the mortises that were cut right into the King Post, we also made our own wooden mallets. All the joints on our supporting components were inset into the main beam with Mortise and Tenons too.

This is the mill I bought in 2021, it's a cheaper mill with all manual components, so I do have to push it to get through the log. On the right, this is my favourite picture of Tripp, my grandson who is very intrigued with construction. I asked what he was doing, he responded "I am working Papa"

This is my favorite hang-out, my timber-framed porch that I built on the east side of my home, I watch the sunrise here every morning and do my digital work here.
We love the porch and hang out in it every day, even in the cold months I am out there having my smoke.
My brother who is a super carver built that chair for me and that's where i sit all the time I am out there.

I want to use my marketing efforts to help others, if you want me to feature your business, I can you help you with writing it out, you would have to provide a photo and I will post it right on this site too.

So I hope you can support our business by just buying through our links anytime you buy from Amazon. You can also help us by sharing this with family and friends anywhere in the world or all across Turtle Island, remember, Amazon is everywhere.
